Massive badge snobbery in rifle scopes. I had a Nikon on .270 quite the equal of a Schmidt & Bender at a fraction of the price because I didn’t want anyone getting the wrong idea about me 😉
Oh yes.... I have a Nightforce on my TRG22, and had someone make disparaging remarks about the light transmission compared with their Schmidt.

My reply "I took my Schmidt off to put the Nightforce on because I like it more, I find it is more instinctive, repeatability is spot on, and there isn't enough difference in light transmission to make a difference in the shooting we both do because they are BOTH great scopes. Your turn!"
(he went back to his spotting scope)

I scored the first ever clear round (that anyone had ever done) at a UKAHFT shoot with my Falcon air rifle with a cheap Hawke Night-Eye scope on the top. I was competing against people who'd spent small fortunes on their rifle/scope combination. Then again I was only using my night-hunting rig because Tony Belas had my competition rig in the boot of his car and I didn't have time to check zero it before the competition - Tony was a little miffed because he was the Managing Director of Daystate and my clear round (and the subsequent coverage in the shooting mags) was with a rifle from "Not Daystate"!

..... much like exchanges on the Stalking Directory. There was a huge tendency to rifle porn with the ultimate this and the ultimate that from people who had fired rounds in 10s and 100s rather than being used to kicking open boxes of 1,000.

Now I won’t pretend there isn’t a difference between match shooting, snap shooting and sniping but they are 2 siblings and a cousin. There were people who would have shot better with a cheaper rig and lots more practice than the labels from which they claimed bragging rights while arguing about calibres they couldn’t place exactly where intended.

I would like something better but for the half hour I spend having a little play now and then to calm me down I can't justify silly money...
I'm looking at cheap scopes on Ebay and am bidding on an smk one I think may fit on my rifle..
Hopefully that will improve my aim...
I used to have a daystate harrier when they first came out..Now that was a rifle with a great scope...
UHAHFT event at Plymouth, back in 2004. Top 3 shooters on the day. (bad day at the office - I came third!)
That's me in the middle with my Daystate Harrier!
Left is Gary Cooper, Right is Paul Wilson - they were both shooting Daystate Mk3.

Barry Hutchins took this photo just after I'd dropped the last target for the first ever 60ex60 at a UKAHFT shoot. He didn't know I was on for the clear round and wondered why I just showed my rifle as clear to my shooting partner and wandered off for a swig of Pendaryn. It was quite surreal. The red cap I am wearing is a legacy from the first international HFT shoot held at Bisley. Wales vs England (St George vs The Dragon). I still have it.

Neighbour.

Pissed me off this morning. He's seen me go out on the bike before, but today decides to open his fyckin yapper.

"What's this then? Mid life crisis?"

"Actually, fyckwit, I've been riding bikes since my teens. What's with buying a house in the back of beyond in Sutherland, if its not a mid life crisis? What you running from?"

He went away promptly. Fycktard.

"it's not a midlife crisis, I've always had bikes. My midlife crisis manifests itself by fucking all the wives in the neighborhood"

If it's mentioned again. Here to help. 😉

It's nothing special...break barrel spring loaded air rifle 22 smk something or another...
I didn't go out my way to buy it and didn't really want it but it gives me something to do now and then...I've been looking at cheap scopes and mounts on ebay today...
I would like another air rifle or even crossbow but they are so expensive now...
Went local gun shop about a year ago and his cheapest second hand rifle was £400

I've got an SMK springer, I don't get to use it now, as I have neighbours and no longer have a sufficiently large garden. It's yours if you want it @BAD LUCK DUCK, very good condition with scope and bag. I haven't fired it for about 8 years, so if you can get some use out of it, you are welcome to it.

Cracking gesture , my son started his shooting career with an SMK many years ago , granted they are a very very budget rifle but a lot better than people give them credit for , accuracy was a tad wayward at 30 yards plus but it accounted for many a 20/25 yard rabbit , rat and pigeon

I got it originally for my son, and we used to get some reasonable results with it, especially considering it is a budget rifle.

If you want one just for Plinking Mr Duck how about this , bought it about 8 months ago , MILBRO EXPLORER .22 , full power . synthetic stock and consistently smashes Trebor mints at 35 yards easily ( other mints are available ) I dont spend a great deal of money on my " field guns " as most of my available land is rocky and a lot of wading knee deep through water , it drops rats , rabbits , pigeons and the like with ease all for £120 approx delivered , the scope is a 3-9x50 off fleabay with selectable illuminated crosshairs and cost about £35 inc mounts ( uk not china ) and has not let me down , if i drop the rifle and damage the scope i dont cry as much as i would do if it was a£300 scope

Awwright for you's in Englandshire, need a bloody licence for an air weapon up here. And there's no way in hell I'd get a licence, not with my record.

However, I can have a crossbow with no licence, and get it delivered to the door (air rifle bought online has to go to the gunsmith and be picked up from there) with no other check other than if I'm over 18...

Similarly the longbow, the katanas etc etc etc.

Crazy.

Snatch his hand off Duck.
I can't....some of you lads have helped me out big time including @Scrappy when he drove all the way up here to do the tune ecu on my bike...I don't know if any of you remember that but his knowledge with tune ecu got my bike remapped how it should have been in the first place...He as already helped me out for which I'm grateful...That however is a gesture I can't accept...Waaaaay to much...
